Stine Eckert, born in 1982, is Associate Professor in the Department of Communication der Wayne State University in Detroit. After studying journalism studies and American studies at the Universität Leipzig and Ohio University she completed her Ph.D. at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. Since 2014 she has been conducting research at Wayne State University on the transformation of journalism and media, the potentials and limitations of new media for minorities, and the constructions of gender in media. She is Chair of the Helen Award Committee for Emerging Feminist Scholarship of the Feminist Scholarship Division (FSD) of the International Communication Association (ICA). Her research and teaching foci are journalism studies, gender media studies and communication theories and publics.
